Who is a friend?
We have heard it said, "A friend in need is a friend indeed. A friend loveth at all times. Tell me who your friends are and I'll tell you who you are. There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. A friend is a gift from God.".
Who are the friends of Kanlungan?
All of the above!
On the occasion of the 14th anniversary of Kanlungan sa Erma, we are launching " The Friends of Kanlungan" because we feel it is the appropriate time to honor and give recognition to our friends, donors, benefactors, and volunteers who have supported our work through all these years. Today, we want to give them a name..."The Friends of Kanlungan".
These are the people who believe in the mission of Kanlungan and in what it is doing. They share their resources voluntarily, give of themselves, their gifts, talents and abilities, offer prayers, and take pride in being associated and identified with Kanlungan.
Kanlungan started on the streets with a friend who stood by them and encouraged them, counseled them, and shared financially. Through the years, many have joined as volunteers and have significantly contributed to the ministry to children of Kanlungan.
There is no denying that these friends and volunteers of Kanlungan have been a moving force behind every forward and upward step of Kanlungan. Kanlungan, with all its flaws and imperfections have been greatly helped and encouraged by friends who believe that we can make it through an upward hill climb towards fulfilling the vision for the Kanlungan children - empowered responsible children restored to a right relationship with God, family and community, contributing productively as partners in development and nation-building. It is a tremendous task!
Purpose of "The Friends of Kanlungan"
The purpose is for all the friends and volunteers of Kanlungan from different sectors and walks of life, to organize themselves into a body that will become the sustainable development arm of Kanlungan, that will help promote the vision/mission of Kanlungan, its goals and objectives. Once organized, in consultation with the board and staff of Kanlungan, the friends can initiate advocacy efforts on behalf of Kanlungan, conceptualize projects and programs, coordinated and participated in by the Friends of Kanlungan.
We welcome and appreciate your suggestions, comments, insights, opinions on how to get this project off the ground. With God's guidance and wisdom and provision, in Whom we trust and hope we will not be disappointed.
